Recently, Gates 2015 TED Talk resurfaced back online as people around the globe seek answers on the ongoing pandemic.
Back then, Gates was able to identify crucial points the global authorities must look out for in terms of preparing for a pandemic. Moreover, emphasized strengthening healthcare systems and allocating budgets for research and development teams.
“We hardly did anything,” Gates said as he recalled his talk in 2015. Though he acknowledges some efforts made, but those weren’t enough.
Furthermore, Gates highlighted why testing and self-isolation are essential in getting through the pandemic crisis.
It is really tragic that the economic effects of this are very dramatic. I mean, nothing like this has ever happened to the economy in our lifetimes. But bringing the economy back and doing money—that’s more of a reversible thing than bringing people back to life. And so we’re going to take the pain in the economic dimension, HUGE pain, in order to minimize the pain in the disease and death dimension.
