From the lush and breath-taking view in the mountains of Batanes to the fascinating dark blue canvas in Tawi-Tawi, the Philippines has truly one of the most spectacular tourist spots in the world.
Days before the year 2019 wrapped up, award-winning lifestyle travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler released its list of 20 Best Holiday Destinations for 2020. And among that list is the Philippines’ very own Siargao Island.

Dubbed as the Surfing Capital of the country, this teardrop-shaped island has been attracting tourists all over the globe—all thanks to its big waves and picturesque view.
In the article, the Siargao sits at number eight, having to call it “the tiny Philippine island giving Bali a run for its money.”
It has been a go-to place for surfers, especially for its “legendary Cloud 9 barreling wave,” who prominent surfers Kelly Slater and Anthony Kiedis proclaimed. Furthermore, its “pristine beaches, tree frog-green mangrove forests, and sweeping groves of coconut palms,” was also lauded by the magazine. Independent hotels and small businesses were progressing along with the boom of tourism, especially during the international surfing contest every September.

Aside from surfing, tourists can as well enjoy sailing to the nearby white-sand-ringed islets of Daku, Guyam, and Naked Island or explore the whole island of Siargao via motorbikes.
Top tourist spots that you might want to check out when you visit the island:
- Ride together with the big waves at Cloud 9 Pier
- Dive into the pristine waters in Sugba Lagoon
- Seek the thrill of coconut tree swinging and into the Maasin River
- Go on an Island Hopping with your Barkadas and see the wonder of Guyam, Daku, and Naked Island
- Jump into the pools of Magpungko Rock
- Rent a scooter and explore the whole island (Spoiler Alert: Coconut trees are endless!)
When is the best time to travel, you ask? While the surfing period is best all year round, the peak tourist season for Siargao is between March and October during the dry season. However, there are no guarantees in between these months, as to the island is often prone to typhoons.
So, if you are planning to visit the tropical island soon, make sure to keep an eye on the weather forecasts.
