Over 70 health workers in Cagayan de Oro tested positive for COVID-19

For the past weeks, the local coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Cagayan de Oro City surged, infecting 78 healthcare workers, City Epidemiologist Joselito Retuya said.

Based on the data gathered starting March to October 14, infected healthcare personnel includes doctors, medical technologists, dental, and administrative and ward personnel from Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), JR Borja General Hospital (JRBGH), and other private hospitals in the city.

Moreover, NMMC Medical Liaison Officer Dr. Bernard Julius Rocha said 51 of their personnel had contracted the virus where 20 have already recovered, while 31 are still under quarantine.

Most of these COVID-positive patients are asymptomatic and contracted the virus from taking care of other COVID-positive patients admitted at the Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Disease (EREID ward in NMMC, Rocha added.

With this, City Mayor Oscar Moreno urged citizens to cooperate and follow the minimum health standard to help curb the rising of the COVID-19 cases and steer clear from the stricter quarantine measures.
