Devoted fans around the globe freaked out when the boy-band sensation One Direction returned to Instagram for the first time in four years on Wednesday, July 22.
The band shared a post via the group’s official account that read, “10 Years of One Direction.” In the caption, the members wrote, “Tomorrow! You and me got a whole lot of history.”

Needless to say, fans were pretty excited, especially considering One Direction hadn’t posted anything on Instagram since May 2016.
“AM I DREAMING!?” a Directioner wrote in the comment section. Added another, “I’m alright, I’m alright, I’M OKAY!”
The band also shared the same post on Twitter and has been trending since. The last time One Direction had tweeted anything was in 2018 when it celebrated the group’s eighth anniversary.
Here are some hilarious tweets from fans worldwide:

Given the current circumstance, the group will be getting back together virtually. Moreover, they are preparing a new 1D anniversary website full of “immersive” offerings, interactive playlists, and “activations across digital platforms,” according to a press release.
The site, set to launch Thursday, will be formatted as a timeline of the group’s history, from their first audition to the beginning of their hiatus. It will also serve as a one-stop-shop archive for One Direction’s music videos, TV performances, and behind-the-scenes content.
Fans can also generate personalized digital mixtapes, tailored to their favorite 1D era, which can be saved to the user’s preferred streaming service (e.g Apple Music, Spotify).
Aside from that, the band is also preparing to simultaneously release a celebration video documenting their highlights together, from their formation on “The X Factor” to the release of their 2015 hit single “History.”
July 23rd marks One Direction’s 10th anniversary, the day Simon Cowell told Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson that they would progress on The X Factor as a group. Since then, the group has conquered hearts from fans around the globe.

Between that date and their last live performance (so far) on December 31st, 2015, they released five albums, toured the world four times (twice playing stadiums), and left a trove of Top 10 hits for millions of loyal global fan base.
In 2015, Malik announced he was leaving the band. Then, later that year, Styles, Tomlinson, Horan and Payne said they had made the decision to take an extended “hiatus.” All of the members then went on to launch solo careers.
Happy 10-year anniversary, guys!
