Meet 20-year-old ‘Augie’, the oldest known living Golden Retriever

Meet Augie, a 20-year-old golden retriever and the oldest known living in history!

August, fondly known as Augie, was born on April 24, 2000. She was rehomed twice before ending up with her current owners, Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt of Oakland, Tennessee. The couple, who were also active in their local golden retriever rescue organization, adopted Augie when she was 14 years old.

While most people wouldn’t want such an elderly golden, the couple didn’t hesitate to adopt her.

According to an article published in Golden Hearts, the couple has taken Augie on several RV trips across the country together with several canine and feline siblings. The elderly dog even played fetch in the pool.

Augie celebrated her 20th, record-setting birthday with a dog-friendly carrot cake and quality time with her golden retriever siblings, Sherman, Belle, and Bruce.

Aside from her kidney issue, which she was diagnosed at age 14, the elder golden is healthy and can still move perfectly well and enjoys her daily walks around the yard.

At an average, most golden retrievers live to about 10-12 years old.
