One of the most celebrated festivals in Mindanao, Kaamulan Festival in Malaybalay City, has been cancelled. Governor Jose Maria Zubiri of Bukidnon officially signed a memorandum on Wednesday, urging all mayors, barangay officials, and Lumad leaders to suspend the preparation for the festival scheduled from March 23 to April 23. The cancellation took place following the Department of Health (DOH) memo on avoiding public gathering amid the 2019 coronavirus that continues to spread. “In view thereof, the 2020 Kaamulan is hereby cancelled as a pro-active measure to keep the people of the province safe from the highly infectious disease,” Zubiri said. Kaamulan Festival is an ethnic cultural event participated by seven major Lumad groups in Bukidnon.
