Actor Jericho Rosales and model Kim Jones used their surfing skills to help local government rescuers check on residents who had fled to the 2nd floor of their homes in a village that straddles Marikina and Quezon City.
Speaking to ABS-CBN, the actor said he and his wife used their surfboards to help rescuers due to the lack of available flotation devices. The residents they checked on did not ask to be evacuated just yet, although the actor said rescuers were still checking on other residents as well.
“This morning paglabas namin, baha na. Usually kapag baha dito kasi, ganyan talaga. Laging ganyan ang problema. Sometimes walang boats or flotation devices so naglabas kami ni Kim ng surfboard,” the actor said.
(This morning when we went out, it was already flooding. Usually when it floods here, that’s the situation. That’s always the problem. Sometimes, there are no boats or floatation devices to Kim and I brought out our surfboards.)
More than a decade ago, Jericho also used his surfboard to rescue people left stranded during the onslaught of Tropical Storm Ondoy (Ketsana) in 2009.
