After a netizen questioned her trip to Colombia amidst the onslaught of typhoon Ulysses (Vamco), Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray assured her followers that she is doing her part to extend assistance to the typhoon victims despite being abroad.
Catriona Gray arrived in Colombia on November 12 (Thursday), ahead of the Miss Universe Colombia pageant which will be held on November 16, where she is part of the pageant’s lineup of judges.
The former Miss Universe titleholder shared on Facebook a video snippet of her arrival, saying: “How it feels to be (finally) here in the beautiful country of Colombia! Gracias!! Thank you for the warm welcome.”
A netizen then reacted to her post on social media saying that instead of traveling abroad, she should be helping her province, Bicol, face the effects of the typhoon. Bicol has gone through two typhoons (including category 5 Typhoon Rolly) within the past few days.
The comment read: “Cat, why are you in Colombia instead of helping your own province deal with the typhoon? I have always been a fan but especially with traveling during a pandemic? What example does taking this job send to everyone?”
“This invitation was extended months ago and even though I’m away, I’ve been doing my part in working with @philredcross since the day of the typhoon to provide aid and relief to the affected areas. ♥️ Thanks for your concern,” Catriona graciously responded.
Catriona is also set to do charity work for Smile Train, a global organization aimed at caring for children with cleft palate problems whom she worked with during her reign in 2018. The former Miss Universe titleholder is also one of the organization’s global ambassadors.
