Bukidnon, Philippines – Around forty former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) are now certified masons and carpenters after completing their training courses on November 16, held at the Headquarters of the 8th Infantry Battalion.
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Bukidnon Provincial Office made the training possible, in partnership with the MMS Development Training Center Corporation and the 8th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army.
“I am very happy that I was endorsed by the Army to undergo the said Masonry Training,” said Masonry graduate Glin Pasibog during their commencement ceremony held at the 8th Infantry Battalion Headquarters. “I am now ready to work, and I hope I could find one.”
TESDA-Bukidnon Koti Bax further congratulates the former insurgents, saying “that toga you are wearing today means you already turned into manhood; that you are now skilled workers. You can’t be called a man if you don’t know how to use a hammer.”
On the other hand, the commanding officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Ronal Illana commended the graduates; and encouraged them to use what they learned to support their livelihood and help build peaceful communities. He also thanked each and everyone for actively participating during classes and assured them a job.
