Baguio PNP confirms death of PMA cadet due to hazing

Cagayan de Oro, Philippines (UPDATED) – After further investigation, Baguio PNP confirms on Friday, September 20, that Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadet Plebe Darwin Dormitorio died of hazing.

Dormitorio, a 20-year-old Kagay-anon, initially vomited and complained of stomach pain inside the barracks of Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City. Brought to the PMA Station Hospital, Dormitorio soon passed away. His official cause of death is “cardiac arrest secondary to internal hemorrhage.”

The PNP also arrested three persons of interest in the case and all are under restrictive confinement inside the PMA.

A member of the PMA Class of 2023, Dormitorio has only entered the academy last July.

(Update) City Mayor Oscar Moreno released a statement regarding Dormitorio’s unfortunate passing:

We are all very saddened by the tragic death of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio, a promising local boy from Cagayan de Oro City, whose dreams were shattered needlessly.

We mourn with the bereaved family and relatives, and we fervently implore on the Almighty to grant his soul eternal rest and peace.

We urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate the death and to leave no stone unturned. We also demand that justice be served regardless of any circumstance. Mr. Dormitorio’s death should not pass unsolved.
