Mother’s Day Special: 6 ways to celebrate Mother’s Day this Quarantine

mothers-day-this-quarantine

Mother’s day is just around the corner, and I mean this Sunday, May 10.

While we can’t really go out and treat our mom for an annual spa day or eat out at her favorite restaurant yet due to the ongoing threats of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), you might want to consider the following gifts and surprises down below to make the day special for your mom!

#1 Virtual party

Can’t visit mom ’cause of lockdown? Luckily for us, we now have the technology to close in any distance, no matter where you are in the world. Arrange a group call together with your siblings, and host a party! You can also include your cousins as well as your Titos and Titas to celebrate mother’s day with your grandma and aunts.

Check out here the video conference platforms you might want to use.

#2 At your door-step

Since some of us can’t go out to shop presents, you might want to buy your gifts online. Our hardworking frontliners are here to offer us their delivery services. From your mom’s favorite food/drink to new clothes to thoughtful flower arrangements, you can get them all at your doorstep without leaving your house. You can check out the following applications:

  • Lazada
  • Shopee
  • Food Panda
  • StreetBy
  • more

For flower arrangement services, you can check out these flower shops (Cagayan de Oro only) and see if they are available for arrangement and delivery.

#3 Dinner date

For the majority of us, our mom has always been our exclusive chef when it comes to meal preparation. But for her special day, you might want to take over the kitchen and prepare her a delightful meal.

Try and remake her special recipe or cook her favorite food. However, if the hot splashing oil is your nemesis, you can also try and make your mom some cool refreshments this sweltering summer.

You can also surprise her with a dinner date. Round up your siblings and orchestrate a memorable family dinner for your mom. To equally disseminate the task, you can assign who’s the cook, the waiter, and the entertainer—or extend the plan and add your Dad as her date.

#4 Watch movie together

Take a break from your cave and venture out into the living room. Grab those needed popcorn and chips and invite your Mom for some movie marathon. Ask for her favorite movies or introduce her to binge-worthy series.

#5 Play board games

Take your eyes off from your screen for today and rekindle quality bonding through board games. Games to consider include Monopoly, Chess, and Scrabble, to name a few. If you don’t have any board games at home (and obviously can’t go out to buy one), use your creativity and create your DIY board games. Tons of templates are available online, which would then allow you to create your own game twists. There are also apps that let you play these games.

#6 Get your mom new succulents or free vegetable seedlings

If your mom has a green thumb and loves little green plants, she would definitely love additional succulents to her collection. Visit Facebook Marketplace for local succulent suppliers and soil deliveries.

Aside from that, you can also buy some soil or get free vegetable seedlings at your local Department of Agriculture office.

This pandemic, although cruel, has taught us things we have been trying to ignore lately—lessons such as the importance of proper hygiene or how one person could greatly affect the many. Moreover, it also reminded us how we have been moving too fast that when we were asked to slow down, a lot of us seemed fretted.

As we grew up and succumb to our busy schedules, most of us tend to forget to even call our parents, and now that we have quite the time to spare, make sure to not put it into waste.
